“COVID­19 has had a devastating impact on the health and well­being of families across our communities. Yet, many of the difficulties families have experienced throughout the pandemic
are not new. The COVID­19 crisis has only brought these issues to the forefront. I have been fortunate to serve as a family and community engagement specialist with BRICK Education Network in Newark since 2019 and have worked with Newark families for nearly a decade. Before the COVID­19 crisis, I helped families with food vouchers, ensured a single mom had a bus card to
get to her job interview, or helped a father study for a certification exam. When COVID­19 hit, I found myself asking, how will the families I serve who were already struggling before the pandemic  make it through this?”
