When the coronavirus hit, families in the South Ward began to feel the effects of it immediately. Many became infected with Covid-19, lost loved ones, their jobs, their ability to get around, access to daily necessities, and found themselves in jeopardy of losing the roof over their heads.
They were faced with what seemed like insurmountable challenges. The team at SWPN quickly went into action, establishing a hotline, a contactless pantry, and food delivery service, securing a partnership with Lyft to provide transportation, distributing PPE, grief counseling, and answering the call in any way, any time a family was in need. SWPN’s COVID response work has resulted in:
PPE Distributed: 10,000
Cash Disbursed: $43, 454
Rent Assistance: $27, 734
Deliveries (Food & Baby Supplies): 1,298
Total Referrals: 2,324
